CATALOGUE

Que:   How can I get a ‘Title Catalogue’?
Ans:   You can access a ‘Title Catalogue’ through the following steps.
          Click on Main Menu: Catalogue >> and click on ‘Title’
          Here, you can see a combo box, ‘Title’ in red colour in bottom side. Place cursor
          On the combo box and press F4 button in the keyboard. Then the combo will be
          Drop down and you can see 8 titles in the alphabetical order.
Here, you have to write down your proposed ‘title’. E.g.: - ‘The principles of data processing’. Now you can select it from the combo box, if it has in the list. At the same time the title and other data will be displayed in the catalogue section in their own columns respectively. Other wise you can type your proposed ‘title’ in the ‘Title Combo box’ and click on ‘Search’ button. Data will be displayed. But the 1st step will be most friendly to you.

Que:   How can I get an ‘Author Catalogue’?
Ans:   You can access an ‘Author Catalogue’ through the following steps.
          Click on Main Menu: Catalogue >> and click on ‘Author’
          Here, you can see a combo box, ‘Author’ in middle side. Place cursor
          On the combo box and press F4 button in the keyboard. Then the combo will be
          Drop down and you can see 8 Authors in the alphabetical order.
Here, you have to write down your proposed ‘Author’. E.g.: - ‘Jawaharlal Nehru’. Then author’s titles will be displayed below the combo box. Now you can select (click) any one title of the author from the combo box. At the same time the Author’s name and other data will be displayed in the catalogue section in their own columns respectively.


Que:   How can I get a ‘Subject Catalogue’?
Ans:   You can access a ‘Subject Catalogue’ through the following steps.
          Click on Main Menu: Catalogue >> and click on ‘Subject’
          Here, you can see a combo box, ‘Subject’ in middle side. Place cursor
          On the combo box and press F4 button in the keyboard. Then the combo will be
          Drop down and you can see 8 Subjects in the alphabetic order.
Here, you have to write down your proposed ‘Subject’. E.g.: - ‘English Fiction’. Then the titles will be displayed below the combo box with the subject of ‘English Fiction’. Now you can select (click) any one title. At the same time the subject name and other data will be displayed in the catalogue section in their own columns respectively.

Que:   I would like prepare a ‘Selection List’ for my library to purchase some books   and I Want a print of that list with maximum details. Explain?
Ans:   It is very easy to prepare a ‘Selection List’ and its print. First of all, go to the main
          Menu and click on ‘Acquisition’ and then ‘Selection List’ (Sub menu). Immediately one window will be appeared named ‘Selection List’. Now click on ‘Add New’ button and insert data to all text boxes and combo boxes. And also you can collect data from all combo boxes. If you can’t meet the proposed data in the respective combo boxes, go to the ‘Extension buttons’ and add to the new items adding windows. Finally click on ‘Save’ button. In this window you can “Update’ data also.



Que:   What is the method to take PALibS v.02’s backup file?
Ans:   It is an external function of PALibS v.02’s interface.
           Preliminarily you have to create a folder in D Drive (optional) named
           ‘New Backup’
          Go to the Desktop. Click on the following steps.
Start → Programs → Microsoft SQL Server → Enterprise Manager (Click).
You can see a big window titled ‘SQL Server Enterprise Manager’ and another window inside titled as ‘Consol Root Microsoft SQL Servers’. Here, in the second window, there is a tree data heading ‘Microsoft SQL Servers’ as selected with a plus (+) symbol at the beginning end. Click on the plus (+) symbol. Now the plus symbol become changed as ‘minus (-) symbol and another heading is appeared below the line ‘SQL Server Group’ with plus symbol at the beginning end. Click on the plus symbol. Now you can see another heading as (local)(Windows NT) with plus at the beginning end. Again click on the plus symbol. Here you can see ‘Databases’ with a folder icon and plus symbol. At the beginning end. Click on the ‘Databases’ plus symbol. Below the ‘Database’ heading find the ‘PalibsDb’ container. This container holds our software’s database. Click on the container, at the moment some icons will be displayed in right side blank white space like: Diagrams, Tables, Views, Stored Procedures, Users, Roles, Rules, Defaults, User Defined Data types and User Defined Functions.
           Again right click on the ‘container’ → ‘PalibsDb’. Now a property box will be displayed. Go to ‘All Tasks’ in the properties. Now you can see another property items in right side. Here go to ‘Backup Database’ Now you can see a dialogue box (window) titled ‘SQL Server Backup – PalibsDb’. In the window there are three buttons ‘Add…’ ‘Remove’ and ‘Contents…’ Click on ‘Remove’ button. Now you can see another dialogue box (window) titled: ‘Select Backup Destination. In this window there are two radio buttons. 1st is ‘File Name’ and 2nd is ‘Backup device:’ ‘File Name’ radio button will be displayed as selected. Under the ‘File Name’ radio button there is a text box holding some data mentioning a path. You have to clear (delete) that path. (Click at end of the ‘File Name’ and then click ‘back space’ button.) Now the existing path (File Name) is cleared. Immediately click on the Extension button right side. (Extension button means a button with 3 dotes on it.) Again another dialogue box (window) will be displayed titled: ‘Backup Device Location – (local). Inside the window you can see Drive Names in alphabetic order. (e.g.: - C:\, D:\, E:\, F:\ etc.) Expand D drive and select previously created folder named ‘New Backup’ [Now you are going to store the backup into the ‘New Backup’ folder]. Below the folder list, there is a ‘File Name:’ Text box. Type a file name for your backup. E.g.: - ‘Dec_20_5pm’. Then click OK button. Existing window disappeared and again click on OK button.  Finally you reached to the 1st window titled: ‘SQL Server Backup – PalibsDb, There are two-radio button close to bottom side. 1st is Append to media and 2nd is Overwrite existing media. Select (Click) Overwrite existing media radio button. And click on OK button at last. One progress bar moves fast and you can see a message box titled: ‘SQL Server Enterprise Manager’ with a message ‘The backup operation has been completed successfully.’ Click on OK button finally. Close first opened window and open D drive and ‘New Backup’ folder. Keep this file in a CD/DVD or external hard disk.
